A World At Dusk
Once a year, during the warmest days of the warmest month, the township of Midsummer hosts all of the tribes of Central Runika in a weeklong frenzy of trading, carousing, and debate. To travel to Midsummer often requires weeks of hard travel, and anyone who finds themselves there can count themselves as one of the very lucky.
During the off-season, Midsummer is unlike most townships, host to a few hundred huts of small but close families who spend the season hunting for pleasure rather than need, and generally living a rich lifestyle. During Midsummer Meet however, the people of Midsummer spend most time catering to the traders and diplomats that come in exchange for large profits. In the weeks leading up to the event, hundreds of spare tents are set up and lavishly furnished for the visitors, and great feasts are planned and prepared.
In the center of the township is the largest hut of all, Goodmead, a great longhouse where laws are passed by day and lavish parties are held by night. At the head of the table sits the current Speaker of Forsetti, who oversees that the debates are fair and equal.
